Security & Verification

VirusTotal Verified

Every release is scanned by VirusTotal using 70+ antivirus engines. Our latest release shows 0 threats detected.

View VirusTotal Reports
VirusTotal is a free service owned by Google that analyzes files and URLs for viruses, worms, trojans, and other malicious content. It aggregates results from 70+ antivirus engines including Norton, McAfee, Kaspersky, Avast, and more. When we say "0/72 threats detected," it means 72 different security scanners found no malicious code in our extension.
You can verify any download yourself:
  1. Go to VirusTotal.com
  2. Upload the .zip file you downloaded
  3. Wait for the scan to complete (usually under a minute)
  4. Review the results from all security vendors
You can also review the complete source code on GitHub.
Absolutely. McGraw Plus:
  • Runs 100% locally in your browser
  • Makes no external network requests
  • Stores settings only in your browser's local storage
  • Has no analytics, telemetry, or tracking
  • Collects zero personal information
The extension only activates on McGraw-Hill Connect domains and cannot access any other websites.
The extension requests minimal permissions:
  • Host permissions (McGraw-Hill domains only): Required to inject the dark mode CSS and JavaScript functionality into Connect pages
  • Storage: Required to save your preferences (like dark mode on/off) locally in your browser
We do not request permissions for browsing history, downloads, or access to other websites.

Privacy

Zero Data Collection

We don't collect, store, or transmit any user data. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Everything stays on your device.

No. McGraw Plus does not collect any personal information whatsoever. We don't know who you are, what courses you're taking, or what answers you enter. The extension is completely client-side — it runs entirely in your browser without communicating with any external servers.
The auto-save feature temporarily stores your answers in your browser's local storage to protect against crashes. This data:
  • Never leaves your device
  • Is automatically cleared when you submit
  • Can be manually cleared anytime via browser settings
  • Is not accessible to us or anyone else
Yes! The complete source code is available on GitHub. You can review every line of code to verify exactly what the extension does. We believe in full transparency — if you're technical, we encourage you to audit the code yourself.

Features

The public release includes:
  • Dark Mode: Eye-friendly dark theme for late-night studying
  • Keyboard Shortcuts: Navigate questions and submit answers without a mouse
  • Auto-Save: Automatic local backup of your answers
  • Timer Display: Always-visible countdown for timed assignments
  • Clean Interface: Remove distracting elements
  • Progress Tracking: Enhanced progress indicators
  • Customizable: Toggle individual features on/off
Click the McGraw Plus icon in your browser's extension toolbar while on a McGraw-Hill Connect page. This opens the settings popup where you can toggle individual features on or off. Your preferences are saved automatically.
Experimental features are developer/testing tools that are not included in the public release. They're only available to:
  • Open-source contributors for testing
  • Developers for debugging
  • Educational research with explicit permission
These require enabling Developer Mode, agreeing to additional terms, and should only be used when explicitly permitted by your instructor or institution.

Academic Integrity

Use Responsibly

McGraw Plus is designed for quality-of-life improvements only. Always follow your institution's academic integrity policies.

The public features (dark mode, keyboard shortcuts, auto-save, timer display) are standard browser enhancements that don't provide unfair academic advantages. They're similar to using browser extensions for dark mode on any website.

However, we recommend:
  • Reviewing your institution's academic integrity policy
  • Checking your course syllabus for any specific restrictions
  • Asking your instructor if you're unsure
When in doubt, ask your professor first.
No. The public release of McGraw Plus does not provide answers, solutions, or any form of academic assistance. It only provides interface improvements like dark mode and keyboard navigation.

Any "answer assistance" features are experimental, not included in public releases, and should only be used when explicitly permitted by your instructor for educational/debugging purposes.
Extensions that modify page appearance (like dark mode) are common and generally not flagged by learning platforms. The public features don't interact with quiz logic or submission processes — they only modify visual styling and add convenience features.

That said, we cannot guarantee how any platform monitors for extensions. Use your own judgment and consult your institution's policies.

Troubleshooting

Try these steps:
  1. Check the URL: Make sure you're on a McGraw-Hill Connect page (URL contains "connect.mheducation.com")
  2. Refresh the page: Sometimes a hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R) is needed
  3. Check extension is enabled: Go to your browser's extensions page and verify McGraw Plus is turned on
  4. Reinstall if needed: Remove and re-add the extension
  5. Check for conflicts: Disable other extensions temporarily to test
McGraw-Hill occasionally updates their interface, which can temporarily break dark mode styling. If you notice issues:
  1. Check for extension updates on our GitHub releases
  2. Report the issue on GitHub Issues with a screenshot
  3. Temporarily disable dark mode until a fix is released
We welcome all feedback! Please open an issue on our GitHub Issues page. Include:
  • Browser name and version
  • Extension version
  • Description of the issue or feature request
  • Screenshots if applicable
  • Steps to reproduce (for bugs)
Since the extension is installed manually (not from a store), updates are also manual:
  1. Download the latest release from our download page
  2. Extract the new .zip file (can replace the old folder or use a new one)
  3. Go to your browser's extensions page
  4. Click "Remove" on the old version
  5. Click "Load unpacked" and select the new folder
Your settings will be preserved as they're stored in browser local storage.
